SOS Children’s Villages is non-governmental, non-religious organization providing the possibility for outcast children to have a loving family. 

International  Charitable Foundation «SOS Children’s Villages» over 11 years  has been promulgating international standards of social services quality at the territory of Ukraine. In our activity we follow European standards of alternative care of children «Quality for children» UNO Recommendations for alternative care for children.  SOS-Ukraine started its activity simultaneously with active development and dynamic formation of state system for social work with children,families and youth that enabled to arrange effective activity of the organization.

Our organization have come a long pace of development  from running separate projects to implementing comprehensive programs to support families and protect children’s rights in Kyiv city, Kyiv region, Luhansk and in Luhansk region of Ukraine.

Our activity is devoted to strengthening families, promoting child well-being and developing of local communities with the view of avoidance of child orphanage.  About 6500 children from nearly 2400 families have received our support over 11 years of our operations. The interest of children is a priority for us in daily work. Therefore, we are interested in changing policies and practices to ensure the rights of the child in our state. It is uneasy way but we are ready to overcome challenges.

SOS – Ukraine through the years:

2003 – SOS Children’s Villages began to operate in Ukraine.  

The first family strengthening project was launched in the city of Kyiv. Our first clients were 47 families with 182 children at risk of losing parental care.

2005 – Family strengthening project was launched in Brovary town, Kyiv region.

2006 – The first SOS Children’s Village in Ukraine was established in Brovary town, Kyiv region. 4 SOS-families were created and 6 children were admitted.

2009 – Introduction of “Case Management” technology and provision of services based in the needs assessment of children and their families. 216 families with 306 children participated in the Family Strengthening Projects in Kyiv and Brovary.

2010 – Official opening of SOS Children’s Village with 10 SOS-families taking care of 45 children.

2011 – SOS-families received official status of family-type children homes and foster families.

2012 – The second SOS-children’s Village Program was launched in Luhansk city.

2013 – Reintegration of the children from institution to their biological families was started. Social adaptation project of care leavers from different type of alternative care was launched with financial support of Ukrainian CF “Korona” and company “ Earnest and Young”.

2014 – SOS Children’s Villages became co-founders of Ukrainian children rights network aimed at promoting social reforms and addressing  topical  issues of children rights in Ukraine.

 Activity of the Family Strengthening Program was extended. We have started to provide comprehensive support to internally displaced people in Kyiv city, Kyiv region and Luhansk city, Luhask region.
